Saturday and Festive Workshops

Saturday Workshops

The studio is a great place to be on a weekend, and with that in mind we’ve designed a range of workshops with specific goals. Each workshop follows a step-by-step approach, breaking down complex makes into manageable stages. With the guidance of your tutor, even complete beginners can achieve impressive results in just three hours.

All of our Saturday workshops have been designed by Kelly Campbell, ensuring that each project is accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding – even if you’ve never touched clay before.

On Saturdays, our focus is on creating functional, hand-built pieces. You’ll be guided through each session by one of our talented teaching artists:

Kelly Campbell, James Lee, or Vic Rollinson.

These sessions are a fun and creative way to spend your weekend. Your finished pieces will be fired and glazed for you, ready to collect after around 5 weeks.

  • Who are they for? Complete beginners (though those with more experience are very welcome, and will also find plenty to learn and develop).

  • Age: 16+

  • Duration: 3 hours. We have classes 10-1pm and 2-5pm

  • Outcome: A beautiful, functional piece of pottery to keep.

We appreciate your understanding that we do not offer refunds. We allow a one-time reschedule.

If you need to reschedule, please ensure that cancellations are made at least one week before the course date. Thank you!

Your Booking will help Support Our Refire Programme

From January 2026, for every Saturday workshop booked, a proportion will be donated to our Refire programme.

Refire provides free and subsidised pottery sessions for people facing mental health challenges or going through particularly difficult periods in their lives.

In 2025 alone, Cardiff Pottery Workshops was proud to provide £8,500 worth of free and subsidised classes to those experiencing adversity. This commitment will continue to grow as we strengthen our community focus through Refire.

DISCLAIMER:

  • Working with clay can be very messy. We supply aprons but it is probably best if you come to the classes in clothes and footwear you don't mind getting dirty. No watches or jewellery to be worn and you may want to tie your hair back in preparation. Cardiff Pottery Workshops Foundation will not be held responsible for any damage to clothing, shoes, jewellery, watches or mobile devices whilst in the studio.

  • Unfortunately if you miss a class this cannot be taken at a later date and no reimbursement will be offered.

  • Classes start on time and if you are late you can join the class but time cannot be made up at the end of the workshop.

  • Classes must be paid for in full.

  • Please be aware you are in a working studio and due care and attention must be given. Inductions will be given on the equipment you will be using. You must not use any other equipment in the studio. Cardiff Pottery Workshop Foundations will not be held responsible for any injury you may incur if you break the rules of the studio.

  • We want you to have the best experience during your time in the studio and part of that is making sure all participants comply with our health and safety procedures.  The company reserves the right to exclude any participant if they consistently fail to meet any of these conditions.

  • All work made in classes will be bisque fired and glazed. Please be aware that although every due care and attention is given to every piece we put in the kiln, once inside the kiln we cannot be held responsible for any work that cracks, explodes or is damaged due to another object exploding. This unfortunately, is out of our hands and is part of the many difficulties of working with clay.

  • We endeavour to have all finished work ready for collection within 5 weeks. After this date we hold all work for a minimum of 12 weeks. Any work not collected after this date will unfortunately be discarded due to minimal studio space. Collection of work is the responsibility of the maker.

  • Once a pot is glazed to your choice it can then not be re glazed once fired.

  • All images used on the Saturday Workshops are pieces made by our Tutors and Students. All work created on a Saturday Workshop will be glazed in a Broken Blue Glaze, Dolomite or Jade as shown in the images above. Please ask the tutor to show you an example. All examples have been designed and made by Kelly Campbell and belong to Kelly Campbell of CPWF.

  • Please ensure to be respectful of others when classes are being delivered in the pottery.
