Throwing at Cardiff Pottery Workshops

In pottery, "throwing" refers to the process of shaping the clay on a potter's wheel. The term comes from the Old English word "thrawan," which means to twist or turn. During throwing, the potter uses their hands to mold the clay as the wheel spins, allowing them to create symmetrical, round forms like pots, vases, and bowls.

At Cardiff Pottery Workshops, we understand the importance of progression and continuous learning. That’s why we offer a six-week beginners’ throwing course, which can be taken as a standalone experience or as part of a two-month taught membership. This membership allows you to continue practicing your skills at the pottery while benefiting from guided tuition throughout your course.

To support ongoing development, we’ve also launched two new courses for 2026: a six-week intermediate throwing course and a six-week advanced throwing course, designed to help you build on your skills and take your work to the next level.
